GREEN Hospitality is launching a (virtual) internship and volunteering program. By working a minimum of 160 hours for 8-12 weeks, you will be able to gain valuable experience in bringing about innovative and engaging events and activities to promote sustainability in hotels, airlines, restaurants, and more.

 

The team is managed by experienced educators at the University of Hong Kong and professional mentors in the fields of sustainability, hospitality, and business. Besides enhancement of soft & hard skills, and professional mentoring, a certificate of recognition will be provided upon successful completion of the program and outstanding participants will also receive a personalized recommendation letter.

GREEN Hospitality - STEM Internship Program Positions
(Summer 2025)

GREEN Hospitality is a young start-up company with a passionate team that cares about sustainability, specifically how innovation and technology can help solve some of the biggest challenges of today. 

Digital Marketing Data Analytics & Automation 

As a Digital Marketing Analytics & Automation Intern, your primary focus will be to build a semi-automated/automated data analytics platform using publicly available software such as Zapier, Airtable, and others to link and gather data from various marketing platforms (Google Analytics, Wix, Mailchimp, social media accounts, etc.) and aggregate them in one dashboard. You will work with an established framework platform/template that you will adapt and enhance as required. Finally, you will be responsible for documenting all the connections, formulas and developing guidelines for the marketing team to be able to upkeep and maintain the dashboard.

 

Under the guidance of the Marketing Manager, and if time permits, you will also be responsible for maintaining our website by applying UX/UI design and SEO principles. 

Responsibilities:

  • Development of Marketing Data Analytics Platform: 

    • Connect various digital platforms (Google Analytics, Wix, Spotify, Apple Podcast, Mailchimp, social media accounts, etc.) using automation tools such as Zapier, exploring and integrating other suitable tools as needed, to provide an aggregated view of marketing performance in real-time.  

    • Research and evaluate new marketing analytics tools and technologies to improve the platform’s functionality and efficiency. 

    • Ensure key data points are included for easy viewing: leads, conversations, ROI, website traffic, social media interaction and more.

    • Ensure the platform can be customised to adjust marketing KPIs, reporting capabilities and frequency. 

    • Design and implement a scalable pipeline to ensure the effective management, analysis and organisation of the growing data.  

    • Develop and deliver regular reports and visualizations, translating the data analysis into actionable insights for the marketing team.

    • Develop documentation for upkeep and further development of the platform, as well as guides and educational materials for the users.

  • Website Management & SEO:

    • Optimise website content for search engines using SEO optimisation to improve website ranking and visibility

    • Perform website updates as required from time to time 


Preferred Background / Skills / Interests:

  • Enrolled in a degree related to Marketing or STEM fields with an IT focus

  • Proactive, solution-oriented and self-motivated to learn and get things done

  • Willing to learn and use new IT tools and generally tech-savvy

  • Interest and some prior practical experience using digital marketing tools is a plus

  • Excellent command of the English language 

  • Responsive and committed with strong communication skills and willingness to work as a team in a multicultural environment

  • Attention to detail, analytical and critical thinking are a must

 

As a STEM Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in product development, data analytics and automation while contributing to GREEN Hospitality's sustainability efforts using various IT tools. This internship will allow you to develop your hard but also soft skills, such as teamwork, communication and time management. You will also have a chance to work with a diverse team and gain exposure to the various aspects of GREEN Hospitality's operations and sustainability topics.


Research & Product Development 

GREEN Hospitality is a young start-up company with a very passionate team that cares about sustainability and specifically how innovation and technology can help solve some of the biggest challenges in our present day. To empower the stakeholders in the hospitality industry, we research existing innovations to provide better decision-making tools and resources that will enable a sustainability transition and develop our innovative solutions. That is where our Research & Product Development plays a vital role.

As a Research & Product Development Intern, your primary focus will be on further developing our chatbot and healthcheck tool that will guide our stakeholders in their sustainability journey using technologies such as Botpress, Zapier, Airtable and others. Furthermore, you will be involved in identifying funding opportunities to acquire resources for the future development of this early prototype and our other innovative software focused on optimising menu engineering for restaurants that aims to reduce food waste.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop/enhance Chatbot & Sustainability Healthcheck Tool:

    • Use a range of IT tools/software to enhance the functionality of our chatbot, including training of AI 

    • Test the tool with potential clients and stakeholders and adapt its features

    • Improve research efficiency by using programs such as Python, and develop an improved system for categorizing our resources and updating research that feeds into the chatbot and healthcheck tools

    • Research on possible future developments, tools and technologies required to enhance the tools

    • Support fundraising efforts by identifying funding channels, preparing pitch decks, applications and other required materials

  • Support Development of a Menu Engineering Tool:

    • Assist the team with development efforts related to our Menu Engineering Tool, which focuses on helping restaurants optimize their menu and reduce food waste

    • Support in fundraising efforts with tasks such as pitch deck development, application writing or searching for new opportunities for fundraising

    • Researching the market, competitors and trends or interacting with potential clients and testing the existing tool

 

Preferred Background / Skills / Interests:

  • Enrolled in a degree related to software engineering, environmental science, environmental engineering or other related STEM degrees

  • Strong research and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail

  • Proficient in English and preferably Cantonese or Mandarin

  • Experience using IT tools such as Zapier, Airtable or similar is an advantage

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges

Duration & Working Arrangements

  • Work at least 160 hours over 8-12 weeks (total duration depends on hours/week)

  • Students, during the regular semester, are required to work 10 hours per week

  • Students, during the summer semester, will need to work 20 hours per week

  • Internships can be conducted virtually including the possibility to work from other time-zones/locations outside HK 

  • Working hours are flexible - expectations to be consulted with the supervisor

  • There is no obligation to come to the office but occasional in-person meetings might be held (for interns/volunteers not present in HK or able to join, virtual participation will be facilitated as far as practicable)​​

  • Access to a device (e.g. laptop) with a connection to the internet is necessary

For the students coming from the University of Hong Kong (HKU), you can get credits for taking this program via the Impact Lab Course (BUSI2812) - apply directly through the course website if that is what you prefer!

 

 

Non-HKU Students & Skilled-volunteers

For non-HKU students and other interested applicants, we are experienced in conducting fully remote and fun virtual volunteering programs that will allow you to develop professional and interpersonal skills as well as learn a great deal about sustainability in the hospitality industry.
