GREEN Hospitality strives to embody the concept of global sustainability in every aspect.
Every year global tourism is growing at a rate of 3.8%, bringing with it significant growth in the hospitality industry. From unsustainable use of the Earth’s finite resources, inefficient energy and water use to excess solid waste, and labour exploitation, the hospitality industry is increasingly aware of the negative consequences on the environment, society, and labour as a result of unsustainable practices.
GREEN Hospitality aims to encourage businesses to work together to bring about innovative, sustainable, cross-border advancements to the global hospitality industry. Companies in the hospitality industry are consistently ranked among the most proactive and focused on ESG issues and CSR initiatives, and at our initiatives such as the conference or hackathon, we share good practices and strategies for the industry going forward.
It is critical that we reduce the amount of solid waste produced by the hospitality industry, as well as recycle as much of the remaining waste as possible.
Every year, millions of tons of food, plastic, textile, and other forms of waste are produced by the hospitality industry. Reducing this waste will require taking bold and creative actions by stakeholders from across the hospitality industry.
In an effort to reduce the amount of solid waste produced every year, GREEN Hospitality hopes to bring together hospitality organizations to implement programs to facilitate a collective methodology in reducing and recycling solid waste.
Biodiversity, rich flora and fauna, the wondrous beauty of nature are among the very assets that the hospitality industry thrives on. It is therefore crucial for the hospitality industry to implement ecologically sound practices to minimize its damage to nature and its life forms, to mitigate climate change for current and future generations, and to conserve the environment so that it can support the continuous growth of the hospitality industry.
As the hospitality industry grows substantially every year, so does the size of the workforce within the hospitality sectors. The tourism and hospitality industries have contributed to 9.9% of global employment, and one-fifth of all global jobs around the world have been attributed to the same industry in the past 10 years.
The hospitality industry is increasingly aware of the employment practices that contribute to labour exploitation and human trafficking, but more drastic industry-wide measures are required to help end modern slavery and to protect human rights.
GREEN Hospitality aims to promote ethical and equal employment opportunities for people of all ages, races and genders, and to develop and facilitate empowerment programs with the help of hospitality companies, to lead the hospitality industry towards a future of ethical and sustainable employment, and empowerment through employment.
The GREEN Hospitality's purpose is to bring results now instead of holding it off for the future through our annual GREEN Hospitality Conference and Hackathon which is looking to innovate for a more sustainable hospitality industry.
Our mission is to work with hospitality companies to drive sustainable results now: there has not been a more critical time to reduce and recycle the large amount of solid waste that is piling up in our landfills or washed off into the ocean, to mitigate the detrimental global warming effects caused by carbon dioxide and other harmful gasses being released by the hospitality industry, and to promote labor rights and equal employment opportunities.
